Rhonda Zack, Principal
A native of North Carolina with a lifelong love of the arts, Rhonda Zack attended the East Carolina School of Art where she graduated with honors with a BFA degree in Environmental Design. In 1996, she moved to Chapel Hill to work for Corley Redfoot Zack, the architectural firm responsible for the Dean Smith Center and Kenan Stadium. With a healthy thirst for knowledge of how buildings go together, she was thrown into the deep end from the start of her career, working on large arenas and recreation centers, and quickly developed a keen understanding of the architectural design process. A natural born organizer with a focused attention to detail and astute business communication skills an enhancement to her design talents, she began early-on leading design teams and learning how to gracefully move projects through State Construction and DOI reviews.
In 2002, Rhonda joined the Chapel Hill firm of Philip Szostak Associates (now Szostak Design) where she became an invaluable asset and leader in the fast-growing firm. A pragmatic problem-solver, she was responsible for leading many of the firm’s most challenging projects through to completion, such as renovating a derelict 1945 diesel engine testing facility into clean labs for NCSU’s Department of Environmental Sciences. In 2005, she became the Project Team Leader on the $44 million Durham Performing Arts Center where, in addition to designing large portions of the building, she deftly coordinated and maneuvered the forty members of the design team through an expedited design process that had to meet legislative demands for the start of construction on a very tight budget.
In 2008, Rhonda established Take Five Design to provide design support services on a contract basis to the building industry in the Triangle area.
